Ratan Tata commits 500 Crores to fight COVID-19

Today, Tata Trusts dedicated Rs 500 crore to fight COVID-19 disease, which it noted was one of the “hardest challenges facing mankind.” India today saw the biggest rise in cases of coronavirus or COVID-19 with 194 patients testing positive for the highly infectious disease in different parts of the world. According to the Union Health Ministry, the number now stands at 918, including 19 deaths.

The funds will be used for Personal Protective Equipment for frontline medical personnel, respiratory systems to treat the cases, testing kits to increase per capita testing, setting up modular treatment facilities for infected patients, information management and training of health workers and the general public, Tata Trusts Chairman Ratan Tata said.

“The COVID 19 crisis is one of the greatest challenges that we will face as a country. In the past, the Tata Trusts and the Tata group businesses have risen to the nation’s needs. At this moment, the need for the hour is greater than any other time,” he tweeted.

In the meantime, Tata Sons has declared additional funding for Covid-19 and related activities from Rs 1,000 Crore. “We will partner with the Tata Trusts and our Chairman Emeritus Mr. Tata will fully support their initiatives and partner together to carry the group’s full expertise,” said a statement.
